NAROWAL: (Web Desk) – UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday has termed that opening Kartarpur Corridor is good omen for promoting interfaith harmony.
The UNC chief visited Kartarpur and reviewed arrangements at the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. Upon his arrival, he was received by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Pir Noorul Qadri.
The UN chief also met with various Sikh leader and shared meal with them, who were already present at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahab. He also laid floral wreath at the grave of Baba Guru Nanak.
UNSC Antonio Guterres also laid floral wreath at the grave of Baba Guru Nanak and visited different sections in the complex. On the occasion, he admired the Pakistani authorities for opening Kartarpur Corridor, saying that the it is good step for promoting interfaith harmony.
The Gurdwara’s administrators briefed the UN chief over the importance of this holy site for the Sikh community. They also told that the purpose behind constructing the corridor was to allow easy access of Sikhs to this place.
He was told that purpose of opening of Kartarpur Corridor is to provide an easy access to Sikh Community across border and this is a practical proof of interfaith harmony, being ensured by Pakistan.
Earlier, Punjab Finance Minister Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht received the UN secretary general on his arrival at the airport.
The schedule of today’s engagements of the UN chief has been finalized in Lahore. UN chief along with his delegation reached Lahore from Islamabad on Monday night on a two-day visit to the Punjab capital.
According to the schedule, the UN secretary general will administer anti-polio drops to children in Lahore. He will also visit Shahi Qila and Badshahi Mosque.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will also meet students at the University of Sciences and address them. Antonio Guterres will also visit Kartarpur where he will meet members of Sikh community.
A dinner will also be arranged in his honour by Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar.
